Long Bio (500 words)

For features, panels, in-depth profiles

Chief Master Greg Moody, Ph.D., is recognized across the country as one of the nation's leading martial arts instructors and researchers. He is American Taekwondo Association Instructor of the Year, holds a Special Service award for developing pre-school curriculum, and his schools have been selected the National School of the Year eight times — with over 17,000 students and 1,800 black belts produced.

His path is unusual. He started his career as an aerospace engineer with a B.S. in Engineering from Arizona State University (1987), working on satellite missions including OrbView-1. He left engineering in 1995 to focus on what he saw as the higher-impact work of developing people directly — and went back to ASU for a Master of Counseling (1999) and a Ph.D. in Curriculum & Instruction (2012) with specialization in Special Education and Psychology. He is a Licensed Associate Counselor (LAC) in Arizona and practices psychotherapy through Integrated Mental Health Associates in Scottsdale.

His doctoral research broke new ground: a controlled academic experiment — the first of its kind — linking martial arts training to improved self-esteem outcomes in children. All prior research had been survey-based or case study work. His findings have informed bullying prevention curricula adopted by martial arts schools nationwide. He is the national expert on bullying and martial arts and an Olweus Bullying Prevention Certified Trainer.

Chief Master Moody is the author of more than 16 books, including the #1 Amazon Best Seller Bullying: Truths, Myths, and What To Do!, The Life Skills of Leaders, the four-book Parent Action Plan series (ADHD · Autism · Fear · Better Grades), Stories of the Black Belts Vol I and II, and Six Simple Steps. He writes regularly on Substack at Both Sides of Yes on decision psychology, leadership under pressure, and business strategy.

As a martial artist, he is an 8th-degree black belt who earned his first degree in 20 months and was promoted to Master Instructor in 2007. He is certified in single and double weapons, two staff styles, three-sectional staff, cane, Ssahng Nat, joint locks, knife defense, pressure point control tactics, Tai Chi, ground fighting, Olympic sparring, CDT, Last Resort Tactics, SHARP, and the Keysi Fighting Method.

He has presented at Arizona State University, Banner Health Group / Melmed Center, the American Taekwondo Association, multiple Arizona school districts (Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Kyrene, Cave Creek), eStem Academy in Arkansas, LaPaloma Academy, Sonoran Science Academy, and ATA academies in Canada, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Argentina. He is V.P. Development at Rev Marketing, Senior Consultant at Martial Arts Wealth Mastery, and the owner of KarateBuilt Martial Arts in Cave Creek, Arizona.

Pre-Cleared Quotes

Direct attribution is fine — no further approval needed. For custom quotes on a specific angle, email the press contact below and tag your deadline in the subject line.
On Decision Psychology
"Most people don't fail because they made the wrong decision. They fail because they made the right decision and then second-guessed it three times before it could land. Conviction isn't certainty. It's the willingness to live with the result."
— Chief Master Greg Moody, Ph.D.
On Leadership Under Pressure
"Pressure doesn't reveal who you are. Pressure reveals what you've practiced. The leader who looks calm in a crisis spent ten years rehearsing that calm before anyone needed it."
— Chief Master Greg Moody, Ph.D.
On Business Strategy
"Every business problem looks like a strategy problem until you realize it's actually a clarity problem. Strategy is what you do after you've decided what business you're actually in."
— Chief Master Greg Moody, Ph.D.
