Welcome. I have a varied background — psychology, business, education, martial arts — which lets me relate to a broad range of challenges you, or you and your partner, might be facing. I work primarily with couples (especially professional couples), men's issues, and the daily challenges of life and work.
It's not easy to reach out and begin counseling. One of my favorite quotes is "a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." I appreciate the chance to take that step together.
Maybe you're down or anxious. Maybe you're unsure about the future of a relationship. Maybe you just feel that you aren't living the life you were meant to lead. Whatever it is, I'm here to offer support.
Therapy is a process of growth and self-discovery. In our sessions we'll work collaboratively to address what's in front of you right now and equip you with practical tools — frameworks for thinking and behaving differently — that you can use long after our work together is done.
My background is unusual for a therapist. I started as an aerospace engineer (Bachelor's in Engineering, ASU 1987), then earned a Master of Counseling from ASU's College of Education in 1999, then a Ph.D. in Curriculum & Instruction with specialization in Special Education and Psychology in 2012. Along the way I built and now run KarateBuilt Martial Arts and have spent decades teaching kids, adults, parents, and instructors.
That mix — engineering rigor, counseling training, and 30+ years coaching real people through real growth — is what I bring to every session. I work best with people who want concrete tools and measurable progress, not just a place to vent.
A few details so the first conversation can be useful right away. Everything stays confidential. I respond personally within one business day.
